Sample collection is performed by a trained phlebotomist using aseptic technique. For blood, venipuncture is done; for other samples, aspiration or biopsy may be used.

How to Prepare
- For adults: Collect 8 mL whole blood in a special Plus Aerobic bottle available from LPL.
- For pediatric patients: Collect 3 mL whole blood in a special Paeds Plus Aerobic bottle.
- For aspirates, body fluids, bone marrow, or CSF: Submit 3 mL in a Plus Aerobic bottle.
- For tissue or pus: Submit in a sterile screw-capped container with normal saline.
- Ship blood samples at room temperature; ship tissue/pus refrigerated.
