Sample Collection
No fasting is required for the Lead Random Urine Test. However, if gadolinium or iodine-containing contrast media has been administered (e.g., during an MRI or CT scan), wait at least 96 hours before collecting the urine specimen. Ensure the specimen container provided is acid-washed and metal-free. Wash your hands thoroughly before collection. Do not touch the inside of the container or lid.
Method: Clean-catch mid-stream random urine collection
Laboratory Analysis
Collect a mid-stream random urine sample of at least 5 mL (10 mL preferred) in the provided acid-washed, metal-free container. Use powderless gloves during specimen collection to prevent contamination. Discard the initial stream of urine and collect the mid-portion. Seal the container tightly immediately after collection.
Report Delivery
Label the container with your full name, date of birth, date and time of collection. Store the specimen refrigerated (2–8°C) if it cannot be transported to the laboratory immediately. The specimen remains stable at room temperature for up to 6 hours, refrigerated for up to 72 hours, or frozen for up to 1 week. Ship refrigerated or frozen to the laboratory using the provided transport kit.

How to Prepare
- Collect 10 mL (minimum 5 mL) of random urine in the provided acid-washed, metal-free container
- Use powderless gloves during specimen collection to avoid contamination
- Perform a mid-stream clean-catch collection: discard the initial stream and collect the mid-portion
- Do not touch the inside of the container or the lid
- Seal the container tightly and label with patient details, date, and time of collection
- If gadolinium or iodine-containing contrast media has been administered, wait 96 hours before collection
