Sample Stability
- Grossly hemolysed samples are not acceptable
- Samples received without proper labeling or identification

Understanding Your Results
May indicate hypercholesterolemia or familial hypercholesterolemia. Increased risk of atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, heart attack, and stroke. Lifestyle modification and/or statin therapy may be recommended.
May indicate hypertriglyceridemia. Very high levels (>500 mg/dL) carry a risk of acute pancreatitis. Associated with obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, excessive alcohol intake, and certain medications.
Low HDL levels reduce the body's ability to clear cholesterol from arteries. Associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Often seen in smokers, sedentary individuals, and those with metabolic syndrome.
Indicates a higher number of atherogenic particles in the blood. May be elevated even when LDL cholesterol appears normal. Considered a more accurate marker of cardiovascular risk than LDL alone.
An independent genetic risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Elevated Lp(a) is not significantly modified by diet, exercise, or most lipid-lowering medications. Patients may benefit from aggressive management of other modifiable risk factors.
Indicates low-grade systemic inflammation associated with atherosclerosis. Elevated levels (>3.0 mg/L) suggest increased cardiovascular risk independent of cholesterol levels. Anti-inflammatory lifestyle measures and statin therapy may be beneficial.
Indicates an unfavorable balance between atherogenic and protective lipoproteins. A higher ratio is associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease and stroke.
