The primary purpose of the Lipoprotein (a) Lp(a) Test is to assess an individual's genetic predisposition to cardiovascular disease. Sample Collection
No special preparation, fasting, or dietary restrictions are required before the Lipoprotein (a) Lp(a) Test. Laboratory Analysis
A trained phlebotomist will draw approximately 2 mL of blood from a vein in your arm using a sterile needle and a Serum Separator Tube (SST). The procedure typically takes less than 5 minutes and may cause minimal discomfort or a slight pinch at the puncture site.
Report Delivery
After blood collection, slight bruising or soreness at the puncture site may occur and typically resolves within 1–2 days. Apply gentle pressure with the cotton provided and avoid strenuous use of the arm for a few hours. Your sample will be processed and analysed using nephelometry, and the report will be delivered the same day via your preferred method.

I recommend Lp(a) testing for all patients with a family history of premature heart disease, unexplained recurrent cardiovascular events despite optimal LDL management, or personal history of early atherosclerotic disease. A single measurement is usually sufficient since Lp(a) levels remain relatively stable throughout life. Elevated Lp(a) levels may warrant more aggressive LDL cholesterol lowering and closer monitoring of overall cardiovascular risk."
