Sample Collection
No special preparation required. For best yield, collect specimen before starting antifungal treatment whenever clinically feasible.
Method: Venipuncture for blood; sterile collection for CSF, sputum, fluids, or tissue biopsy
Laboratory Analysis
Strict sterile technique should be used. For blood, collect 4 mL in EDTA (lavender top). For fluids, use sterile screw-capped containers. For tissue, place in normal saline in a sterile container.
Report Delivery
Specimens must be refrigerated (2-8°C) and shipped to the laboratory as soon as possible. Do not freeze.

How to Prepare
- Whole blood: 4 mL (2 mL min.) in lavender top (EDTA) tube.
- CSF/Sputum/Fluids: 2 mL in a sterile screw-capped container.
- Tissue: In normal saline in a sterile container.
- Ship refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE.

Understanding Your Results
Positive
Fungal DNA detected. Indicates presence of a fungal pathogen. Clinical correlation and species identification are recommended.
Negative
No fungal DNA detected. Does not exclude fungal infection; if clinical suspicion is high, further testing or repeat testing may be advised.
If you have persistent fever, unexplained respiratory symptoms, or an underlying immunosuppressive condition, and your Pan Fungal Detection PCR result is positive, contact your treating physician promptly. Even a negative result should be discussed in the context of ongoing symptoms.
Limitations
- ⚠Pan-fungal PCR does not differentiate between colonization and true infection in non-sterile sites.
- ⚠Detection is qualitative; it does not quantify fungal burden.
- ⚠Negative result does not completely rule out active fungal infection.
- ⚠Species-level identification usually requires additional tests, such as DNA sequencing or culture.
