Sample Collection
Duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) and Consent form for HIV testing and pre-test counselling (Form 10 and 10A) are mandatory. Follow the treating doctor's instructions regarding medicines and fasting. Inform the lab if you are on blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder.
Method: Venipuncture and random urine collection
Laboratory Analysis
A tourniquet is applied and blood is drawn from a vein into multiple tubes. A random urine sample is also collected in a sterile container. The procedure takes about 10 minutes.
Report Delivery
Press the puncture site for a few minutes. You can usually resume normal activities unless advised otherwise by the treating doctor.

Who Should Get This Test
To evaluate overall health, blood counts, glucose, kidney function, coagulation and select infection markers before a surgical procedure.
How to Prepare
- Collect 3 mL serum in SST tube, 2 mL plasma in Grey Top (Sodium Fluoride) tube, 3 mL whole blood in Lavender Top (EDTA) tube and 10 mL random urine in sterile screw-capped container.
- Collect 3 mL whole blood in Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube for prothrombin time. Mix thoroughly by inversion.
- Transport the Blue Top sodium citrate sample to the laboratory within 4 hours. If not possible, make platelet-poor plasma within 1 hour as specified.
- Ship serum, plasma, EDTA whole blood and urine refrigerated within 48 hours.
- Submit duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) and HIV consent form (Form 10 and 10A) along with the sample.
