Method: Venipuncture
Laboratory Analysis
A single blood sample of 2 mL will be collected from a vein in your arm using a sterile technique. The process is quick and usually takes less than 5 minutes.
Report Delivery
You may resume normal activities immediately. If mild bruising occurs at the puncture site, it usually resolves on its own.

Who Should Get This Test
To help assess whether a woman with a pelvic mass is at low or high risk for ovarian malignancy, based on HE4, CA125 and menopausal status. ROMA is not a diagnostic test and must be used with clinical and radiological assessment.
How to Prepare
- Collect 2 mL venous blood in a Serum Separator Tube (SST).
- Allow the sample to clot before centrifugation.
- Separate serum and ship refrigerated or frozen.
- Menopausal status is mandatory on the requisition form.

Limitations
- ⚠ROMA is an aid in risk assessment, not a diagnostic test.
- ⚠It is not intended for ovarian cancer screening in asymptomatic women.
- ⚠It does not detect all types of ovarian cancers, including non-epithelial or borderline tumours.
- ⚠A low ROMA score does not completely exclude malignancy.
- ⚠Results should be interpreted with clinical examination, imaging and, where required, tissue biopsy.

Interfering Factors
- ●CA125 can be elevated in endometriosis, menstruation, pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids and benign ovarian cysts.
- ●HE4 levels may be affected by renal impairment.
- ●Incorrect or missing menopausal status can affect ROMA interpretation.
- ●Recent surgery, peritonitis or pleural effusion may elevate CA125.
