Understanding Your Results

The SARS-CoV-2 Diagnostic Panel Test results should be interpreted by a qualified physician in the context of clinical symptoms, exposure history, radiological findings, and serial monitoring. The combination of viral RT-PCR and inflammatory markers provides a more comprehensive clinical picture than PCR testing alone.
📊

SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Detected

Active SARS-CoV-2 infection is likely; patient should follow isolation protocols and clinical monitoring as per guidelines.

📊

SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Not Detected

No SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected in this sample; however, if clinical suspicion remains high, repeat testing may be considered.

📊

Elevated CRP

Indicates systemic inflammation; commonly elevated in COVID-19 and can help assess severity or progression.

📊

Elevated NLR

Suggests a pro-inflammatory state and may correlate with higher disease severity in COVID-19 patients.

📊

Abnormal CBC parameters

Lymphopenia, leucopenia, or thrombocytopenia are frequently observed in COVID-19 and require clinical correlation.

⚠️ When to Consult a Doctor:

Contact your healthcare provider if you have fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste, fatigue, body aches, or known COVID-19 exposure. Seek emergency medical attention for chest pain, confusion, bluish lips or face, or difficulty breathing.

Limitations

  • A negative RT-PCR result does not completely exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection, especially if the sample was collected very early or very late in the illness
  • Detection of viral RNA by RT-PCR does not always indicate the presence of viable infectious virus
  • False-negative results may occur due to sampling variation or low viral load
  • NLR and CRP are non-specific markers and should be interpreted in the clinical context
  • Reference ranges vary by age, sex, laboratory, and analytical method

Risks & Considerations

  • Mild discomfort or gagging during nasopharyngeal/oropharyngeal swab collection
  • Slight pain, bruising, or redness at the venipuncture site
  • Rare risk of bleeding or infection at the blood collection site

Interfering Factors

  • Improper or inadequate sample collection may lead to false-negative RT-PCR results
  • Haemolysed serum sample may interfere with CRP measurement
  • Delayed transport or inappropriate storage conditions can reduce viral RNA stability
  • Recent blood transfusion may affect haematological parameters
  • Concurrent bacterial infection or other inflammatory conditions may elevate CRP and NLR

What type of samples are collected for this test?
Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs in viral transport medium, serum in SST, and whole blood in EDTA are required for this panel.
Is fasting needed before the SARS-CoV-2 Diagnostic Panel Test?
Overnight fasting is preferred, but it is not mandatory for emergency diagnosis. Your healthcare provider will advise you based on your condition.
How long does it take to get the report?
If the sample is received by 11 am, the report is typically delivered within 2 days through online portal, email, or WhatsApp.
Why are CRP and NLR included in a COVID-19 diagnostic panel?
CRP and NLR are inflammatory markers that help assess the severity of COVID-19 and can help clinicians monitor the risk of progression to severe disease.
How is SARS-CoV-2 detected in the diagnostic panel?
The SARS-CoV-2 virus is detected using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), a highly sensitive molecular method that amplifies viral genetic material.
Can I book home sample collection for this test?
Yes, DNA Labs India offers free home sample collection for online bookings for the SARS-CoV-2 Diagnostic Panel Test in multiple cities across India.
Is the SARS-CoV-2 Diagnostic Panel Test better than a rapid antigen test?
RT-PCR-based tests are generally more sensitive than rapid antigen tests. This panel also provides additional inflammatory markers, giving a broader clinical picture.
What does a negative SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR result mean?
A negative result means viral RNA was not detected in the sample. However, if symptoms continue or exposure is very recent, a repeat test may be recommended by your doctor.
Who should get this test?
The test is recommended for individuals with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19, those requiring pre-surgical screening, healthcare workers, and patients where a clinician wants to assess both infection and inflammation.
