Sample Collection
Duly filled Covid-19 Clinical Information Form (Form 44) / SRF ID as mandated by GOI is mandatory. Duly filled Swine Flu/H1N1 Clinical Information Form (Form 25) is also mandatory. Overnight fasting is preferred before blood collection. Please inform your physician about current medications and any recent illness.
Method: Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab followed by venous blood collection
Laboratory Analysis
The oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab may cause mild gagging or transient discomfort. Two blood samples will be collected from a vein in the arm.
Report Delivery
Patients can resume normal activities and diet after collection. If fasting was done, a light meal is recommended. Apply gentle pressure at the blood collection site for 1-2 minutes.
Timeline: Reports are delivered on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for samples accepted by 9 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday respectively.

Who Should Get This Test

How to Prepare
- Duly filled Covid-19 Clinical Information Form (Form 44) / SRF ID as mandated by GOI is mandatory.
- Duly filled Swine Flu/H1N1 Clinical Information Form (Form 25) is mandatory.
- Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs must be placed in the special Viral Transport Medium (VTM) available from LPL.
- Ship swab and blood samples refrigerated in a special transport box available from LPL. Do not freeze.
- Overnight fasting is preferred for blood collection but is not mandatory.

Sample Stability
- Missing or incomplete Covid-19 Clinical Information Form (Form 44) / SRF ID.
- Missing or incomplete Swine Flu/H1N1 Clinical Information Form (Form 25).
- Swab received without the approved Viral Transport Medium (VTM).
- Sample at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
- Frozen whole blood or hemolyzed serum sample.
- Insufficient sample volume.
- Unlabelled or leaking sample container.
Understanding Your Results
SARS-CoV-2 RNA detected
Indicates current or recent COVID-19 infection. Follow isolation and treatment protocols recommended by the physician and local health authorities.
Influenza A H1N1 RNA detected
Indicates H1N1 influenza infection. Antiviral treatment may be considered based on clinician judgement.
Elevated inflammatory markers
Suggests systemic inflammation. The physician may use this information for severity assessment and monitoring.
No target pathogen detected
Does not completely exclude infection, especially if the sample was collected early. Clinician should correlate with clinical findings and may consider repeat testing.
Consult a doctor immediately if the test is positive for SARS-CoV-2 or H1N1, or if symptoms worsen, including high fever, difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, bluish lips or face, or reduced urine output.
Limitations
- ⚠A negative result does not completely exclude infection, particularly if the sample was collected early or improperly.
- ⚠RT-PCR detects viral nucleic acid and may remain positive even after the live virus has cleared.
- ⚠The respiratory comprehensive panel only detects the specific pathogens included in the panel.
- ⚠This test detects current infection and does not assess prior infection or immunity.
- ⚠Virus mutations may rarely affect the performance of molecular assays; interpretation by the laboratory and treating physician is recommended.

- ●Dizziness or lightheadedness during blood draw.
Interfering Factors
- ●Sample not collected in the approved Viral Transport Medium (VTM).

- ●Hemolysis in serum sample can affect CRP and CBC results.
- ●Insufficient sample volume may lead to incomplete testing.
- ●Sample collected too early or too late in the illness course may give false-negative molecular results.
