How to Prepare
- No fasting is needed for this test.
- If a tuberculin skin test (TST) is administered, the TB Gold Plus blood sample should be drawn at the same time as TST placement or within 3 days of it to avoid boosting.
- If the patient is scheduled for a live-virus vaccine, the blood sample should be drawn on the same day of vaccination or 4–6 weeks after.

Understanding Your Results
Positive
A positive result indicates infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It does not distinguish between latent and active tuberculosis. Further clinical evaluation, including chest X-ray and sputum studies, is required.
Negative
A negative result suggests that there is no tuberculosis infection. However, in symptomatic patients or when clinical suspicion is high, further diagnostic testing may be needed.
Indeterminate
An indeterminate result indicates an uncertain immune response, often due to immunosuppression or improper sample handling. Repeat testing with a fresh sample is recommended.
If the test result is positive, consult a doctor immediately for medical evaluation. A physician should also be consulted if you have symptoms such as chronic cough, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, or fever, even if the test is negative.
Limitations
- ⚠The test does not distinguish between latent tuberculosis infection and active tuberculosis disease.
- ⚠It may produce indeterminate results in patients with severe immunosuppression or hematological conditions.
