This assay is an indirect test for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection including disease and is intended for use in conjunction with risk assessment, radiography and other medical and diagnostic evaluations. How to Prepare
- Collect 5 ml (minimum 3 ml) whole blood in a green top sodium heparin tube
- Send the sample refrigerated; do not freeze
- Indicate the collection date and time on the tube

Understanding Your Results
Negative
No significant immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens detected. This does not completely exclude TB infection.
Positive
Immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens detected. Indicates TB infection, either latent or active. Clinical correlation is required.
Indeterminate
The controls did not perform as expected. A repeat blood draw or an alternative diagnostic test may be needed.
Consult a healthcare provider if you have persistent cough, fever, night sweats, weight loss, blood in sputum, or known exposure to a patient with active TB.
Limitations
- ⚠IGRA cannot distinguish latent TB infection from active TB disease
- ⚠A negative result does not completely rule out tuberculosis infection, especially in advanced immunosuppression
- ⚠The test should be used in conjunction with clinical evaluation, imaging and microbiological work-up
- ⚠Performance in young children and severely immunocompromised patients may be limited

Interfering Factors
- ●Recent BCG vaccination does not usually affect IGRA results

- ●Errors in blood collection, storage or transport may affect the test
- ●Delayed processing beyond the recommended time may reduce cell viability
- ●Concurrent acute viral illness may influence immune response
- ●Certain immune-suppressing medications may lower the interferon-gamma response
