Overview
The Andrology Panel Test is used to evaluate the hormonal status of the male reproductive system. It helps diagnose conditions such as male infertility, hypogonadism, testicular dysfunction, and pituitary gland disorders. The panel measures FSH and LH to assess the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, and Total and Free Testosterone to evaluate androgen production. This test is essential for men planning fertility evaluation, those with symptoms of testosterone deficiency, or individuals undergoing assisted reproductive treatments.

Sample Collection
No specific fasting is required. Inform your physician about any medications or hormone supplements you are taking. Morning sampling (before 10 AM) is preferred for optimal testosterone assessment. Avoid strenuous exercise 24 hours before sample collection.
Method: Venipuncture
Laboratory Analysis
A blood sample of approximately 3 mL will be drawn from a vein in your arm using standard venipuncture technique. The blood will be collected into a Serum Separator Tube (SST). The procedure typically takes 5-10 minutes and is minimally invasive.
Report Delivery
Apply gentle pressure to the puncture site with a cotton ball for 3-5 minutes. Avoid heavy lifting with the punctured arm for a few hours. Mild bruising may occur and typically resolves within a few days. Results will be available on the same day.
Timeline: Same day reporting when sample is received at the laboratory by 9 AM, Monday through Saturday.

"The Andrology Panel Test is a first-line investigation for male infertility workup. It evaluates key reproductive hormones including FSH, LH, and testosterone. Abnormal levels can indicate testicular failure, hypogonadism, or hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction, helping clinicians determine the precise etiology and guide targeted treatment strategies."

Understanding Your Results
Suggests primary testicular failure (hypergonadotropic hypogonadism). The testes are not functioning properly despite appropriate stimulation from the pituitary gland. Causes include Klinefelter syndrome, testicular injury, or chemotherapy.
Indicates secondary hypogonadism (hypogonadotropic hypogonadism). The problem originates from the hypothalamus or pituitary gland. Causes include pituitary tumors, Kallmann syndrome, or chronic illness.
Hormonal profile is within normal limits. If infertility persists, further evaluation with semen analysis, sperm function tests, or genetic testing may be required.
May indicate early testicular dysfunction or selective germ cell failure while Leydig cell function remains intact. Semen analysis is recommended.
May suggest increased SHBG binding. Free testosterone assessment helps identify androgen deficiency in such cases.
Consult your endocrinologist or reproductive medicine specialist if your Andrology Panel Test results show any abnormal values. You should also seek medical advice if you have been unable to conceive after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse, or if you experience persistent symptoms of low testosterone such as fatigue, low libido, erectile dysfunction, decreased muscle mass, or mood disturbances.
Limitations
- ⚠This panel does not include semen analysis or sperm function tests which may be required for complete fertility evaluation
- ⚠Single-point hormone measurement may not capture diurnal or pulsatile variations
- ⚠Results should always be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and physical examination
- ⚠Genetic causes of infertility such as Y-chromosome microdeletions require separate genetic testing
Risks & Considerations
- ●Minor bruising or swelling at the blood collection site
- ●Slight pain or discomfort during venipuncture
- ●Rare risk of infection at the puncture site
- ●Lightheadedness or dizziness in sensitive individuals
Interfering Factors
- ●Recent testosterone therapy or anabolic steroid use may suppress hormone levels
- ●Acute illness or severe stress can transiently lower testosterone
- ●Circadian variation — testosterone levels are highest in early morning
- ●Certain medications such as corticosteroids, opioids, and anticonvulsants may affect results
- ●Obesity may alter SHBG levels and affect total testosterone interpretation
Compare With Similar Tests

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Comparison | Andrology Panel Test | Semen Analysis evaluates sperm count, motility, and morphology directly from a semen sample, while the Andrology Panel evaluates the hormonal drivers of sperm production through blood tests. Both are complementary and often ordered together. | Testosterone Total Test measures only one hormone, whereas the Andrology Panel provides a comprehensive evaluation of FSH, LH, Total and Free Testosterone for a complete hormonal assessment. | Male Infertility Panel may include additional genetic tests (like Y-chromosome microdeletion) and semen analysis alongside hormonal tests, offering a broader evaluation compared to the hormone-focused Andrology Panel. |
