Understanding Your Results
Non-reactive
No HIV antibodies detected. If recent exposure, retesting after the window period (2-4 weeks) is recommended.
Reactive
HIV antibodies detected. Confirmatory testing with Western Blot is required as per NACO guidelines before diagnosis.
If the test result is reactive, or if you have symptoms suggestive of HIV infection or known exposure, consult an infectious disease specialist immediately for further evaluation and management.
Limitations
- ⚠Cannot detect HIV infection during the window period of 2-4 weeks post-exposure
- ⚠False positives may occur; confirmatory testing is required for reactive results
- ⚠Detects antibodies, not the virus itself, so not suitable for very early acute infection
Risks & Considerations
- ●Minor bruising or discomfort at the blood draw site
- ●Very low risk of infection or fainting during venipuncture
Interfering Factors
- ●Hemolyzed or lipemic samples may affect results
- ●Recent vaccinations or other infections could potentially cause false positives
