Understanding Your Results
Low leptin may indicate congenital leptin deficiency, severe caloric restriction, chronic illness, or hypothalamic dysfunction. Patients may present with insatiable hunger, early-onset obesity, and impaired immune function.
Range: Below normal range
Leptin levels within the reference range suggest normal adipocyte function and energy regulation. Results should still be correlated with BMI and clinical symptoms.
Range: Within normal range
Elevated leptin levels may indicate leptin resistance, chronic obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The body produces more leptin but fails to respond to its appetite-suppressing signal.
Range: Above normal range
