Understanding Your Results

The Expert Panel 4 Test report provides a comprehensive expert histopathological review of all submitted slides and/or tissue blocks. The report includes detailed findings on tumor type, grade, margin status, invasion features, and other relevant pathological parameters. Below is a general guide to interpreting the key findings:
📊

Favorable pathological outcome suggesting complete excision with no evidence of local invasion into vessels or nerves. Correlation with clinical staging recommended.

📊

Tumor cells are present at one or more resection margins, indicating potential residual disease. Re-excision or additional treatment may be warranted.

📊

Tumor cells detected within lymphatic or vascular channels, which may indicate an increased risk of metastasis and warrants further staging evaluation.

📊

Tumor invasion along nerve pathways identified, which may have implications for local recurrence risk and treatment planning.

📊

Poorly differentiated tumor indicating aggressive biological behavior. More intensive treatment and close follow-up may be recommended by the treating oncologist.

📊

If the expert review differs from the original pathology report, the revised diagnosis should be discussed with the treating oncologist for treatment plan modification.

⚠️ When to Consult a Doctor:

Consult your oncologist if the expert panel review identifies positive margins, lymphovascular or perineural invasion, a change in tumor type or grade compared to the original diagnosis, or if additional molecular or immunohistochemical testing is recommended. Any unexpected or discordant findings should be discussed with your treating specialist to determine the appropriate next steps in management.

Limitations

  • This test is an expert review of existing histopathology slides and/or blocks; it does not involve new molecular or immunohistochemical testing unless separately requested
  • Definitive staging may require correlation with clinical and radiological findings beyond the scope of this panel
  • Certain rare or poorly differentiated tumors may require additional immunohistochemistry or molecular studies for definitive classification
  • The review is based on the material submitted; results are dependent on the quality and representativeness of the specimen

Risks & Considerations

  • As this test involves review of existing tissue specimens, there are no direct physical risks to the patient from the testing process itself
  • Submitting all available slides and blocks from the site may temporarily deplete the stored specimen; discuss with your pathologist if additional testing may be needed in the future
  • There is a small possibility that the submitted material may not be adequate for a definitive expert opinion, in which case additional specimens may be requested

Interfering Factors

  • Improperly fixed or poorly preserved tissue specimens may compromise evaluation quality
  • Inadequate number of slides or blocks submitted relative to the lesion size
  • Crushed or distorted tissue from prior handling or transport damage
  • Absence of prior clinical history and previous pathology reports may limit accurate interpretation
