Doctor's Notes
Reviewed by Dr SHAILAJA RAGHUNATH MURDESHWAR — MBBS, MD (General Medicine) · Reg. No. 8052
"The ovarian cancer panel combines CA 125 with Inhibin B. CA 125 is most informative for high-grade serous epithelial ovarian cancer, whereas Inhibin B adds value for mucinous epithelial and granulosa cell tumors. Results must be interpreted with imaging and clinical context; this panel is not a standalone screening test for the general population."

Test Parameters & Specifications
Sample Stability
- Improperly labelled sample
- Insufficient serum volume (< 2 mL)
- Leaking or broken SST
- Sample not stored or transported within stability limits
Understanding Your Results
< 35 U/mL
Generally considered normal; does not rule out ovarian cancer.
> 35 U/mL
May be associated with ovarian cancer, especially higher levels. Can also be elevated in benign conditions.
Elevated
May support mucinous epithelial ovarian tumors or granulosa cell tumors.
Normal
Less supportive of granulosa cell or mucinous tumor activity, but clinical correlation is required.
Consult a physician if you have persistent bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, early satiety, urinary urgency or frequency, unexplained weight changes, fatigue, or a family history of ovarian/breast cancer. Also seek review for abnormal panel results.
Limitations
- ⚠Not a stand-alone diagnostic test for ovarian cancer.
- ⚠Normal CA 125 does not completely exclude ovarian cancer.
- ⚠Elevated CA 125 is not specific for malignancy.
- ⚠Inhibin B reference ranges are assay-dependent and not universally standardized.
Risks & Considerations
- ●Mild pain or discomfort at the needle site
- ●Bruising
- ●Lightheadedness
- ●Rare risk of infection
Interfering Factors
- ●CA 125 can be elevated in endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, menstruation, pregnancy, benign ovarian cysts, liver disease, and recent abdominal surgery.
- ●Inhibin B levels vary with age, menopausal status, and menstrual cycle phase.
- ●Clinical correlation is essential because benign ovarian and pelvic conditions can influence results.
