How to Prepare
- Do not give a sample within 7 days of Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) or Rectal Prostatic Ultrasonography.
- No fasting is required for this test.
- Collect 2 mL (1 mL minimum) of serum from 1 Serum Separator Tube (SST).
- Ship refrigerated or frozen after collection.

"PSA is a useful marker but should always be interpreted with clinical correlation. Not every elevated PSA indicates cancer. However, a single normal result does not completely rule out prostate cancer, especially in high-risk individuals."

Understanding Your Results
Usually considered within the normal reference range. PSA can still be elevated in benign conditions, so clinical correlation is needed.
Level: 0–4 ng/mL
Elevated PSA may indicate prostate cancer or benign prostate disease. Further evaluation including DRE, imaging, and biopsy may be required.
Level: >4 ng/mL
May suggest disease recurrence or incomplete response in prostate cancer patients.
Level: Rising PSA after treatment
Consult an oncologist or urologist if your PSA level is elevated, if you have urinary symptoms, if you are above 50 years, or if you have a family history of prostate cancer.
Limitations
