Step 1

Sample Collection

No fasting is required. Please carry the duly filled Covid-19 Antibody Test Form (Form 45) to the collection center or present it to the phlebotomist for home collection.

Method: Blood draw from arm vein

Step 2

Laboratory Analysis

A trained phlebotomist will draw a blood sample from a vein in your arm. The procedure is quick and typically causes minor discomfort.

Step 3

Report Delivery

You may resume normal activities immediately. No special precautions are necessary. The collected sample will be processed in the laboratory.

Timeline: If the sample reaches the laboratory by 11 AM, the report will be available by the next working day.

Patient Instructions

1
Before the Test:No fasting required. Complete the mandatory Covid-19 Antibody Test Form (Form 45). Inform the lab if you are on immunosuppressive therapy or have a history of transfusion recently.
2
During the Test:You will be comfortably seated. A tourniquet is applied to make veins more visible. The phlebotomist cleans the area and draws a small amount of blood into an SST.
3
After the Test:Apply pressure to the puncture site for a minute. A small bruise may develop, which is normal. You can leave immediately and the report will be sent digitally.

About This Test

Who Should Get This Test

This assay is used for epidemiology/prevalence studies and to facilitate contact tracing. It also helps in the identification of potential convalescent plasma donors. The test provides valuable information about the humoral immune response following SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination.

How to Prepare

  • Use a serum separator tube (SST) for blood collection.
  • Allow the blood to clot for about 30 minutes before centrifugation.
  • If shipping, refrigerate or freeze as per sample stability guidelines.
  • Ensure the form is completely filled to avoid sample rejection.

Doctor's Notes

Reviewed by — MBBS, MD (General Medicine) · Reg. No. 8052

"Antibody testing plays a key role in understanding individual and population-level immunity. This test should not be used for diagnosing acute infection but is valuable for detecting prior exposure and vaccine response."

Understanding Your Results

The SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies Profile Test provides information about past exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and immune response. Results should be correlated with clinical status, vaccination history, and timing of testing.
📊

Negative

No antibodies detected. This may indicate no prior infection or vaccination, or that the individual is in the early phase of infection before antibodies appear.

📊

Positive (IgG or Total)

Antibodies detected, indicating past infection or vaccination. The presence of IgG generally suggests a more mature immune response.

📊

Equivocal/Borderline

Antibody level is near the cutoff. Repeat testing after a few days is recommended to clarify the result.

⚠️ When to Consult a Doctor:

Consult your physician if you have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, or if you have questions about your antibody test result and its implications for your health or work. Also seek medical advice if you are uncertain about the need for vaccination or booster doses.

Limitations

  • This test is not for diagnosing acute COVID-19. PCR or antigen testing is required for active infection.
  • A negative result may not rule out recent infection if testing is performed too early.
  • A positive result does not guarantee immunity from reinfection.
  • Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and exposure risk.

Risks & Considerations

  • Slight pain or stinging during blood draw
  • Minor bruising at the puncture site
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness after blood draw
  • Rare risk of infection at the puncture site

Interfering Factors

  • Antibody levels may be too low to detect in the early phase of infection (within first 1-2 weeks).
  • Cross-reactivity with antibodies against other human coronaviruses may cause false-positive results.
  • Immunosuppressed patients may have a diminished antibody response.
  • Improper sample handling or transport may affect accuracy.
