Overview
The purpose of this test is to detect clinically significant variants in the AVPR1A gene and support diagnosis, clinical management, recurrence-risk assessment and genetic counselling for autism spectrum disorder.
- Test Code
- 3915
- Price
- ₹20,000
- Sample Type
- Blood or Extracted DNA or One drop Blood on FTA Card
- Result Time
- Reports are generally generated within 3 to 4 weeks after the sample reaches the laboratory.
- Fasting Required
- No
- Method
- Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
Sample Collection
No fasting is required. Kindly provide a valid doctor's referral if available. A pre-test genetic counselling session is recommended to review clinical history and family history.
Method: Venipuncture or one-drop blood collection on FTA card
Laboratory Analysis
A trained phlebotomist will collect a small blood sample in an EDTA tube, or one drop of blood may be placed on an FTA card for drying.
Report Delivery
There are no activity restrictions after sample collection. The sample will be transported to the laboratory for NGS analysis.
Timeline: Reports are generally generated within 3 to 4 weeks after the sample reaches the laboratory.

About This Test
Who Should Get This Test
The purpose of this test is to detect clinically significant variants in the AVPR1A gene and support diagnosis, clinical management, recurrence-risk assessment and genetic counselling for autism spectrum disorder.
How to Prepare
- Carry a government-issued photo ID and the test requisition form
- Attend a genetic counselling session before testing if advised
- For FTA card collection, allow the blood spot to air-dry completely before packing
- Ensure the sample container or FTA card is clearly labelled with the patient's name and date of birth
Doctor's Notes
Reviewed by Dr SULOCHANA HEMCHANDRA HOLLA — MBBS, MD (Medical Genetics) · Reg. No. 8532
"If a pathogenic AVPR1A variant is identified, families should receive non-directive genetic counselling to understand recurrence risks and future reproductive options."

Test Parameters & Specifications
Sample Stability
- Clotted or haemolysed blood sample
- Incorrectly labelled or unlabelled sample
- Inadequate sample volume
- Leaking tube or damaged packaging
- FTA card with insufficient blood spots or visible contamination
Understanding Your Results
Negative
No clinically significant pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants were identified in the AVPR1A gene.
Variant of Uncertain Significance (VUS)
A genetic variant was found, but its clinical significance is currently unknown.
Positive
A pathogenic or likely pathogenic variant in the AVPR1A gene was identified.
Consult a doctor if the test shows a pathogenic or likely pathogenic variant in AVPR1A, or if signs such as delayed speech, poor social interaction, repetitive behaviours or restricted interests are present.
Limitations
- ⚠NGS may not detect all types of mutations, such as large deletions, duplications or trinucleotide repeat expansions, unless specifically analysed
- ⚠A variant of uncertain significance (VUS) may require additional family studies and clinical correlation
- ⚠A negative result does not rule out a clinical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder
- ⚠Interpretation should be performed by a clinical geneticist, neurologist or multidisciplinary medical team
Risks & Considerations
- ●Mild pain or bruising at the blood collection site
- ●Dizziness or lightheadedness during blood draw
- ●No genetic or physical risk from the test itself
Interfering Factors
- ●Poor quality or degraded DNA may cause test failure
- ●Sample contamination or mislabelling can produce inaccurate results
- ●Variants located outside the targeted sequencing regions may not be detected by this test
