Sample Collection
Overnight fasting (8–12 hours) is preferred. Inform your physician about any anticoagulant or thrombolytic medications you are taking. A duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory.
Method: Venipuncture
Laboratory Analysis
A healthcare professional will draw approximately 3 mL of blood from a vein in your arm into a Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube. The tube must be mixed thoroughly by gentle inversion immediately after collection.
Report Delivery
Apply pressure to the puncture site for a few minutes. Minor bruising is normal. The sample must be transported to the laboratory within 4 hours. If transport within 4 hours is not possible, prepare Platelet Poor Plasma (PPP) within 1 hour of collection and freeze immediately.

How to Prepare
- Collect 3 mL whole blood in a Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tube
- Mix thoroughly by gentle inversion immediately after collection
- Transport to the lab within 4 hours of collection
- If transport within 4 hours is not possible, prepare PPP within 1 hour: centrifuge at 3600 rpm for 15 min, transfer supernatant to a clean plastic tube, centrifuge again at 3600 rpm for 15 min, transfer final supernatant to a labelled screw-capped vial
- FREEZE IMMEDIATELY after PPP preparation. Ship frozen. DO NOT THAW
- Duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) must accompany the sample

Understanding Your Results
Normal range. No significant increase in fibrinolytic activity detected.
Suggests normal clot formation and breakdown processes.
Mildly to moderately elevated.
May indicate early DIC, venous thromboembolism, liver disease, recent surgery, or trauma. Correlation with D-dimer and other coagulation parameters is recommended.
Significantly elevated.
Strongly suggestive of active DIC, severe thrombotic conditions, major trauma, or advanced liver disease. Immediate clinical evaluation and additional testing are warranted.
Consult your doctor if your FDP levels are elevated, especially if you are experiencing unexplained bleeding, bruising, swelling in limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, or abdominal pain. Elevated FDP in conjunction with abnormal PT, aPTT, or D-dimer results may require urgent medical attention.
