Sample Collection
Ensure a doctor's prescription is available on official letterhead with one photograph each of the recipient and donor, duly stamped. The Consent Form for HLA Typing for Solid Organ Transplant (Form 33) must be signed by the patient or legal guardian. No fasting is required. Inform the phlebotomist of any recent blood transfusions.

Laboratory Analysis
A venipuncture will be performed to collect 4 mL of whole blood in a Lavender Top (EDTA) tube or 6 mL in a Yellow Top (ACD) tube. The collection is a standard blood draw procedure with minimal discomfort. The sample will be labelled with patient and donor identifiers and documentation will be verified at the time of collection.
Report Delivery
Apply pressure to the venipuncture site with cotton or gauze for 3-5 minutes. Avoid heavy lifting with the arm used for blood draw for the rest of the day. How to Prepare
