Doctor's Notes
Reviewed by Dr Pasupathy Arumugam — MBBS, MD (Pathology) · Reg. No. 21521
"ZAP-70 status by flow cytometry is a key prognostic marker in chronic lymphocytic leukemia. A positive ZAP-70 result is associated with more aggressive disease and may influence treatment planning. Always interpret this result with clinical findings, complete blood counts, morphology, cytogenetic markers, and other immunophenotypic findings."

Test Parameters & Specifications
Sample Stability
- Frozen or refrigerated samples
- Samples older than 24 hours
- Clotted, hemolyzed, or insufficient volume samples
- Unlabeled or mismatched samples
Understanding Your Results
If you have symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, easy bleeding or bruising, or abnormal blood counts, consult a hematologist or oncologist.
Limitations
- ⚠ZAP-70 testing requires fresh, viable cells and should be performed promptly after collection
- ⚠Flow cytometry gating and antibody panels may vary by laboratory
- ⚠ZAP-70 alone is not diagnostic; results should be correlated with morphology, cytogenetics, immunophenotype, and clinical findings
Risks & Considerations
- ●Mild pain or bruising at venipuncture site
- ●Bone marrow aspiration may cause temporary discomfort or soreness
Interfering Factors
- ●Improper sample storage or temperature during transport may reduce cell viability and affect results
- ●Recent chemotherapy or immunotherapy can alter cell populations and ZAP-70 expression
- ●Hemodiluted, clotted, or insufficient samples may yield unreliable results
