How to Prepare
- For nasopharyngeal swabs: Insert swab into nostril parallel to the palate, leave in place for a few seconds, then rotate and withdraw.
- For bronchial lavage: Performed by a physician during bronchoscopy; sample collected in a sterile trap.
- For sputum: Patient should rinse mouth with water, then cough deeply to produce sputum from the lungs.
