Understanding Your Results
May suggest increased bone marrow production in response to acute blood loss, haemolysis, or recent recovery from anaemia.
May suggest decreased bone marrow production, as seen in iron deficiency anaemia, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, bone marrow failure, or chronic inflammation.
The bone marrow response may be adequate, but the result must be interpreted with the complete blood count and clinical picture.
Consult your doctor if you have persistent fatigue, breathlessness, dizziness, pale skin, or if your reticulocyte count result is outside the reference range. Additional tests may be required to identify the underlying cause.
