The purpose of this test is to screen for common sexually transmitted infections so that asymptomatic carriers can be identified, treated and counselled. Early diagnosis helps prevent serious health complications and reduces transmission to sexual partners. It is not a definitive diagnostic test for every STD; results must be interpreted by a qualified doctor.

Sample Collection
No fasting or special preparation is needed. A signed HIV consent form (Form 10 & 10A) is mandatory. For urine collection, avoid urinating for at least one hour before sample collection.
Method: Venipuncture and first-void clean-catch urine
Laboratory Analysis
A small amount of blood is drawn from the arm into an SST. A first-void urine sample is collected in a sterile container. The process takes about 5 to 10 minutes.
Report Delivery
You can resume normal activities immediately. Apply pressure at the puncture site for a few minutes and inform the provider if unusual pain, swelling or bleeding occurs.

Who Should Get This Test

How to Prepare
- No fasting or special preparation is required.
- Download and sign the HIV consent form (Form 10 & 10A) before sample collection.
- For urine sample, do not pass urine for at least one hour before collection and collect first-void urine in the sterile container.
- Keep the urine sample refrigerated if there is any delay in reaching the lab.
- Inform the phlebotomist about recent antibiotic use, symptoms or known exposure.
- Carry a valid government photo ID for registration.

"STD screening should be based on sexual history and risk factors, not only on symptoms. A negative result during the window period does not completely exclude infection, so repeat testing and preventive counselling may be necessary."

Understanding Your Results
Non-reactive / Not detected
Screened STD markers were not detected. A recent exposure within the window period may still require repeat testing.
HIV Reactive
Signifies possible HIV infection and requires a confirmatory test such as Western blot or HIV-1 DNA PCR, along with specialist consultation.
HBsAg Reactive
Indicates current hepatitis B infection or carrier state. Additional serological markers and liver function tests are needed.
Anti-HCV Reactive
Suggests past or current hepatitis C infection. HCV RNA PCR is needed to confirm active infection.
RPR / TPHA Reactive
May indicate syphilis. A treated past infection can remain TPHA-positive; clinical correlation is essential.
Chlamydia or Gonorrhea Detected
Active infection is present. Treatment, partner notification and test-of-cure are recommended.
HSV Antibodies Positive
Indicates past or current herpes simplex virus infection. Clinical correlation with symptoms and re-testing may be required.
If the STD panel result is reactive, positive or detected for any infection, consult a doctor or infectious disease specialist as soon as possible. Also consult if symptoms persist despite a negative result, if a partner is diagnosed with an STD, or if post-exposure prophylaxis is needed.
Limitations
- ⚠Serological tests have a window period of days to weeks depending on the infection.
- ⚠A positive screening result does not confirm infection; confirmatory/supplementary tests are required.
- ⚠Extra-genital chlamydia or gonorrhea infections may not be detected by urine-only NAAT.
- ⚠The panel does not cover all possible STD organisms such as Trichomonas vaginalis, Mycoplasma genitalium or HPV.
Risks & Considerations
- ●Minor bruising or bleeding at the venipuncture site
- ●Slight soreness or hematoma around the needle site
- ●Transient dizziness during blood collection
- ●Infection at the puncture site is extremely rare
- ●No significant risk from urine collection
Interfering Factors
- ●Recent exposure may be within the window period and can produce a false negative result.
- ●Antiviral or antibiotic treatment can suppress the infection and affect test results.
- ●Haemolysed, lipaemic or contaminated samples may interfere with EIA/CMIA testing.
- ●Previous Treponema pallidum infection can cause a positive TPHA despite successful treatment.
- ●Urine sample that is not first-void may be diluted and reduce the sensitivity of NAAT.
