Sample Collection
Patient must be ambulatory (upright) for at least 2 hours before sample collection. Discontinue certain medications as advised by physician: potassium-wasting diuretics, Spironolactone, Eplerenone, Amiloride, Triamterene for 4 weeks; adrenergic blockers, Clonidine, Methyldopa, NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin receptor blockers, Renin inhibitors, Dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonists for 2 weeks. Use alternative antihypertensives like Verapamil, Hydralazine, Prazosin if needed.
Method: Venipuncture with specific preparation
Laboratory Analysis
Standard venipuncture procedure using a Lavender Top (EDTA) tube. Ensure proper collection and handling.
Report Delivery
Separate plasma from blood cells immediately after collection. Freeze the plasma and ship frozen to the lab. Do not thaw the sample.

Who Should Get This Test
To diagnose and monitor conditions related to the adrenal glands, such as primary hyperaldosteronism, adrenal tumors, or electrolyte imbalances, by measuring aldosterone levels in the blood.
How to Prepare
- Patient must be ambulatory (upright) for at least 2 hours before sample collection.
- Discontinue specific medications as advised by physician for specified periods prior to test.
- Collect 3 mL (min. 2.5 mL) of blood in a Lavender Top (EDTA) tube.
- After collection, gently invert the tube 8-10 times to mix.
- Centrifuge the sample to separate plasma and transfer plasma to a transport tube.
- Freeze the plasma immediately and ship frozen to the lab.
