Patient must be ambulatory (upright) for at least 2 hours before sample collection. Discontinue certain medications as advised by physician: potassium-wasting diuretics, Spironolactone, Eplerenone, Amiloride, Triamterene for 4 weeks; adrenergic blockers, Clonidine, Methyldopa, NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin receptor blockers, Renin inhibitors, Dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonists for 2 weeks. Use alternative antihypertensives like Verapamil, Hydralazine, Prazosin if needed.
