"Chlamydophila pneumoniae is an atypical respiratory pathogen that often causes mild upper respiratory tract infections but can progress to pneumonia, bronchitis, and pharyngitis. An IgG-positive result indicates past exposure and does not confirm an active infection. In clinical practice, I recommend pairing this test with an IgM antibody test and correlating with clinical symptoms and radiological findings for accurate diagnosis. A four-fold rise in IgG titres between acute and convalescent samples collected 2–3 weeks apart is considered more diagnostically significant than a single positive result. Patients with persistent cough, atypical pneumonia, or unresponsive respiratory symptoms should discuss IgG testing with their physician."

Negative (< 0.9 IV)
No detectable IgG antibodies against C. pneumoniae. This suggests no prior exposure or infection occurred too recently for IgG to develop. If clinical suspicion is high, repeat testing in 2–3 weeks or order an IgM test.
Equivocal (0.9 – 1.1 IV)
Borderline antibody levels. A repeat test in 2–3 weeks is recommended to determine if titres are rising or falling. Clinical correlation is essential.
Positive (> 1.1 IV)
IgG antibodies are detected, indicating past exposure to C. pneumoniae. This does not confirm active infection. For confirmation of recent infection, paired sera testing with a convalescent sample 2–4 weeks later is recommended to check for a four-fold rise in titre.
Consult your doctor if you have a persistent cough lasting more than 2 weeks, unexplained fever, chest pain, shortness of breath, or if your IgG result is positive and you are experiencing active respiratory symptoms.
