Test Parameters & Specifications
Sample Stability
- Clotted specimen
- Hemolyzed sample
- Insufficient volume
- Frozen or refrigerated sample
- Improperly labelled or missing clinical information
Understanding Your Results
May indicate infection, inflammation, autoimmune disease, or monocytic leukemia. Requires clinical correlation.
May be seen in bone marrow suppression, aplastic anemia, or post-chemotherapy states.
Altered antigen density can be seen in myelodysplastic syndromes or leukemic transformation.
Consult your healthcare provider if you experience unexplained fever, weight loss, night sweats, persistent fatigue, recurrent infections, easy bruising, or swollen lymph nodes.
Limitations
- ⚠Flow cytometry results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings, morphology, and other laboratory tests
- ⚠CD14 is not specific for malignancy; abnormal levels may occur in benign reactive conditions
- ⚠Reference ranges are laboratory-dependent and may vary based on gating strategy and instrument settings
- ⚠Bone marrow samples require specialized collection and may have limited stability
Risks & Considerations
- ●Mild pain or bruising at venipuncture site
- ●Hematoma formation
- ●Rarely, infection or excessive bleeding
- ●Bone marrow aspiration may cause transient discomfort
Interfering Factors
- ●Recent infections or inflammatory conditions may transiently alter monocyte counts
- ●Corticosteroid or immunosuppressive therapy can affect CD14 expression
- ●Chemotherapy or growth factors may influence leukocyte populations
- ●Improper sample handling, refrigeration, or freezing can lead to cell loss and inaccurate results
- ●Clotted or hemolyzed specimens may be unsuitable for analysis
