Understanding Your Results

CD7 expression is assessed by flow cytometry. The percentage and intensity of CD7-positive cells are interpreted together with clinical history and other immunophenotypic markers.
CD7 is normally expressed on T cells and NK cells.
Loss of CD7 or abnormal co-expression may be seen in some T-cell lymphomas or leukaemias.
Results must be correlated with clinical findings and other flow cytometry markers.
⚠️ When to Consult a Doctor:

Consult a haematologist or oncologist if you have unexplained fever, night sweats, weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, easy bruising or bleeding, or an abnormal CD7 report.

Limitations

  • CD7 alone is not diagnostic; correlation with other flow cytometry markers and clinical details is essential.

Risks & Considerations

  • Mild pain or bruising at venipuncture site
  • Rare infection or bleeding at bone marrow aspiration site

Interfering Factors

  • Refrigeration or freezing
  • Delayed transport
  • Clotted or haemolysed sample

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CD7 immunophenotyping by flow cytometry test?
It is a laboratory test that uses flow cytometry to detect CD7 surface antigen expression on cells from blood or bone marrow.
Why is CD7 tested?
CD7 helps in the evaluation and classification of suspected leukaemia, lymphoma, and autoimmune disorders.
What sample types are required?
Whole blood in EDTA and sodium heparin tubes, or bone marrow in a sodium heparin tube, may be used.
Is fasting required before the test?
No fasting is required. A brief clinical history and sample details are needed.
How is the sample processed?
Cells are stained with fluorescent antibodies and analysed by a flow cytometer to assess CD7 expression.
What conditions can it help diagnose?
The test may help evaluate leukaemia, lymphoma, and certain autoimmune or lymphoproliferative disorders.
What do abnormal CD7 results mean?
Loss or aberrant CD7 expression may be seen in some malignancies, but results must be interpreted with other markers and clinical findings.
How much does the CD7 test cost in India?
The cost is Rs 3500 at DNA Labs India, including home sample collection for online bookings.
Do you offer home sample collection?
Yes, DNA Labs India offers free home sample collection for online bookings across many Indian cities.
How quickly will I get the CD7 test report?
If the sample is received by 9 am, the report is usually available the same day.
Why should the sample not be refrigerated or frozen?
Refrigeration or freezing can affect cellular antigen expression and may compromise flow cytometry results.
Is insurance coverage available for this test?
Insurance coverage varies. It is best to check with your insurer or the DNA Labs India support team.
