Understanding Your Results

Results are reported as the presence or absence of cytoplasmic IgG heavy chain expression in the gated cell population. A positive finding may support clonal B-cell or plasma cell neoplasm but must be correlated with clinical history and morphology.
Presence of cytoplasmic IgG heavy chain in plasma cells may be seen in plasma cell dyscrasias such as multiple myeloma.
Aberrant B-cell expression may be seen in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
A negative result does not exclude malignancy if the sample is inadequate or the abnormal clone is not sampled.
Correlate with clinical findings, complete blood count, serum protein electrophoresis and bone marrow morphology.
