Negative (< 25 IU/mL)
Anti-dsDNA antibodies are not detected at significant levels. This result does not rule out SLE, as approximately 30-40% of SLE patients may not have detectable anti-dsDNA antibodies. Correlation with ANA, clinical symptoms, and other labs is essential.
Equivocal (25-30 IU/mL)
Borderline levels detected. Repeat testing after 2-4 weeks is recommended. Correlation with clinical findings and other autoimmune markers is necessary.
Positive (> 30 IU/mL)
Elevated anti-dsDNA antibodies detected. This is highly suggestive of SLE, especially in the presence of compatible clinical features. Higher titers may indicate active disease and correlate with lupus nephritis risk. Further evaluation by a rheumatologist is recommended.
Consult a rheumatologist or immunologist if your test results are positive or equivocal, or if you experience symptoms such as persistent fatigue, unexplained joint pain or swelling, butterfly-shaped facial rash, sensitivity to sunlight, recurring mouth ulcers, hair loss, or unexplained kidney problems. Early diagnosis and management of autoimmune conditions significantly improves outcomes.
Limitations
