Overview
The purpose of the Liquid Bx. Cell Free PAN RAS (KRAS,NRAS) test is to identify mutations in the KRAS and NRAS genes from circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). This helps in: 1) Early detection of cancer, 2) Guiding targeted therapy decisions, 3) Monitoring treatment response, 4) Detecting minimal residual disease, 5) Identifying acquired resistance to anti-EGFR therapy. The test is non-invasive, reducing the need for tissue biopsies, and provides real-time molecular information.

Understanding Your Results
KRAS/NRAS mutation detected
Presence of RAS mutation; may predict resistance to anti-EGFR therapy (e.g., cetuximab, panitumumab) in colorectal cancer.
Action: Discuss alternative targeted therapies or chemotherapy options with oncologist.
KRAS/NRAS mutation not detected
No mutation found in tested hotspots; patient may be eligible for anti-EGFR therapy.
Action: Consider anti-EGFR therapy if clinically indicated.
Inconclusive
Insufficient ctDNA or technical issue; repeat test or consider tissue biopsy.
Action: Repeat test after 2-4 weeks or proceed with tissue biopsy.
Consult your oncologist if you have symptoms like unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, blood in stool or urine, persistent pain, or lumps. Also, if you have a family history of cancer, discuss screening options.
Limitations
- ⚠May not detect mutations if ctDNA is below detection limit
- ⚠Not a standalone diagnostic test for cancer
- ⚠Results should be correlated with clinical and radiological findings
- ⚠Cannot detect all RAS mutations (only common hotspots)
- ⚠Not recommended for hematological malignancies
Risks & Considerations
- ●Minimal risk of bruising at puncture site
- ●Rare risk of infection
- ●Fainting or dizziness during blood draw
Interfering Factors
- ●Hemolysis of blood sample
- ●Insufficient blood volume
- ●Sample not collected in Streck tube
- ●Delay in processing beyond 72 hours
- ●High background cfDNA from non-tumor sources
