Sample Collection
Overnight fasting (8–12 hours) is preferred. Avoid strenuous physical exercise for 24 hours before the test. Inform your physician about any medications, hormonal therapies, or supplements you are taking.
Method: Venipuncture
Laboratory Analysis
A blood sample of 2 mL (minimum 1 mL) will be drawn from a vein in your arm using a standard venipuncture procedure into an SST (Serum Separator Tube). The procedure typically takes less than 5 minutes.

Apply pressure to the puncture site with cotton for a few minutes. There are no major restrictions after sample collection. Mild bruising at the site may occur and resolves on its own.

How to Prepare
- Overnight fasting is preferred (8–12 hours)

Interpretation should always be done in conjunction with bone density studies and other relevant laboratory parameters under clinical supervision."

Understanding Your Results
May indicate increased bone turnover as seen in osteoporosis (especially postmenopausal), Paget's disease of bone, primary hyperparathyroidism, hyperthyroidism, bone metastasis, renal osteodystrophy, or recent bone fractures. Elevated levels may also indicate adequate response to anabolic bone therapy.
Range: Elevated levels
May indicate low bone turnover or formation activity as seen in hypoparathyroidism, hypothyroidism, prolonged corticosteroid use, or may suggest response to anti-resorptive therapy.

Suggests normal bone turnover rate. However, normal levels do not completely exclude bone disorders and should be correlated with clinical findings and bone density results.
