Sample Collection
Collect a preferably fasting blood sample between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Avoid calcium or Vitamin D supplements for 24 hours prior unless advised otherwise by your physician. Inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking.

A standard venipuncture will be performed to collect approximately 4 mL of blood into a Serum Separator Tube (SST). The procedure takes only a few minutes and involves minimal discomfort.

How to Prepare
- Fast for 8-10 hours before sample collection (water is permitted)
- Sample must be collected between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM
- 4 mL blood collected in 1 SST (Serum Separator Tube)
- Separate serum within 30 minutes of collection
- Freeze the separated serum immediately after separation
- Ship the sample frozen. DO NOT THAW during transit

I routinely recommend this panel for postmenopausal women, elderly individuals, patients on long-term corticosteroids, and anyone with a history of fragility fractures. Results should always be interpreted in the clinical context and may be supplemented with a DEXA scan for definitive osteoporosis diagnosis."

Understanding Your Results
This pattern commonly indicates Vitamin D deficiency with secondary hyperparathyroidism, often leading to osteomalacia in adults or rickets in children. Calcium absorption is impaired, and PTH rises to compensate by increasing bone resorption.
Recommendation: Vitamin D supplementation and dietary calcium correction. Further evaluation with DEXA scan recommended.
May suggest primary hyperparathyroidism where overactive parathyroid glands elevate PTH, causing calcium to be mobilized from bones. This can lead to osteoporosis over time.
Recommendation: Consult an endocrinologist. Parathyroid imaging and additional tests (ionized calcium, PTH repeat) may be required.
May indicate renal phosphate wasting disorders or oncogenic osteomalacia. Impaired phosphorus reabsorption leads to bone mineralization defects.
Recommendation: Further workup including renal function tests, FGF-23 levels, and referral to a specialist in metabolic bone disease.
Normal results suggest adequate bone mineral metabolism at the time of testing. However, this does not rule out structural bone abnormalities that require imaging (DEXA scan) for assessment.
Recommendation: Continue preventive measures including adequate calcium and Vitamin D intake, weight-bearing exercise, and periodic screening as advised by your doctor.
Consult your doctor if any of the Osteoscreen Panel parameters fall outside the normal reference range, or if you experience persistent bone or joint pain, frequent fractures, loss of height, or difficulty in mobility. Even if results are normal but symptoms persist, further evaluation including DEXA scan or additional bone turnover markers may be necessary. Pregnant women and individuals with chronic kidney disease should discuss results with their treating specialist.
