Understanding Your Results

Results are interpreted based on factor IX activity levels compared to normal reference ranges.
Normal: 50-150% activity - No deficiency
Mild Hemophilia B: 5-40% activity - Occasional bleeding symptoms
Moderate Hemophilia B: 1-5% activity - Frequent bleeding episodes
Severe Hemophilia B: <1% activity - Spontaneous bleeding, high risk

If experiencing unexplained bleeding, easy bruising, or abnormal test results, consult a hematologist immediately for further evaluation and management.

Limitations

  • May not detect mild or carrier states in some cases
  • Results can be affected by pre-analytical errors
  • Not a standalone test; may require additional coagulation tests

Risks & Considerations

  • Minor bruising or hematoma at puncture site
  • Rare risk of infection
  • Dizziness or fainting (very rare)
