About This Test
Who Should Get This Test
The HLA-B7 (B*07) test detects the HLA-B*07 allele as a disease association marker. It is used in the evaluation of seronegative spondyloarthropathy, juvenile spondyloarthropathy and undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy, particularly in individuals who are HLA-B27 negative.
How to Prepare
- Collect 4 mL (3 mL min.) whole blood in Lavender Top (EDTA) tube OR 6 mL (3 mL min.) whole blood in Yellow Top (ACD) tube.
- Mix gently by inversion after collection.
- Ship refrigerated. Do not freeze.
Doctor's Notes
"HLA-B7 should be interpreted as a disease association marker and not as a standalone diagnostic test. A positive result supports clinical evaluation but must be correlated with symptoms and other rheumatology findings."

- Severely haemolysed sample
- Inadequate volume or incorrect tube
Understanding Your Results
HLA-B7 (B*07) Detected
The HLA-B*07 allele is present. It may be associated with increased risk of certain autoimmune diseases and may support diagnosis of seronegative, juvenile or undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy, especially when HLA-B27 is negative. Clinical correlation is required.
HLA-B7 (B*07) Not Detected
The HLA-B*07 allele was not identified in the sample tested. This reduces but does not fully exclude risk of related disorders.
Consult a rheumatologist if you have persistent inflammatory back pain, joint swelling, skin rash or neurological symptoms, or if your HLA-B7 result is positive.
Limitations
- ⚠Qualitative test only; it does not quantify disease risk.
- ⚠A positive result does not confirm a specific disease.
- ⚠A negative result does not exclude all autoimmune or spondyloarthropathy risk.
- ⚠Test results should be interpreted with clinical evaluation and other relevant tests.
Risks & Considerations
- ●Mild pain or bruising at the needle site
- ●Light-headedness
- ●Local bleeding
Interfering Factors
- ●Incorrect sample tube
