Sample Collection
Overnight fasting is preferred. Discontinue Heparin for 1 day and Oral Anticoagulants for 7 days prior to sampling, with prior consent from the treating physician. Duly filled Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15) is mandatory.
Method: Venipuncture
Laboratory Analysis
Blood is drawn from a vein in the arm using standard venipuncture technique into 2 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tubes. Tubes must be mixed thoroughly by inversion immediately after collection.
Report Delivery
Apply pressure to the puncture site to stop bleeding. Avoid strenuous activity for a short period. Ensure sample is transported to the lab within 4 hours or processed as per stability guidelines (prepare platelet-poor plasma if delayed).

How to Prepare
- Collect 6 mL whole blood in 2 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tubes
- Mix tubes thoroughly by inversion
- Transport to lab within 4 hours or prepare platelet-poor plasma (PPP) within 1 hour if delay occurs
- Freeze PPP immediately if not tested; ship frozen without thawing
- Include completed Coagulation Requisition Form (Form 15)
